Our History

Chattahoochee Harley-Davidson was founded in 1979 as Archies Harley Davidson by Archie Spires. In November of 2000, Archie sold the dealership to John and Marlies Cunningham. John was an energy consultant for Arthur Andersen LLP prior to taking over the dealership as President and General Manager. For John, a long time motorcycle enthusiast, this was a dream come true. Both John and Marlies intend to be active in the day to day operations of the dealership. John first came to the Columbus area thirty years ago when, as a graduate of West Point, he finished his ranger training at Fort Benning.

After completing his military career he worked in the utility industry as a regulator, attorney and then as a control of a major electric utility. Most recently John was employed as a consultant for Arthur Andersen. The Cunningham’s three children, Mike, Katrina, and Sean, all continue to put in time helping with the operations here at Chattahoochee. Katrina now works full time as Motorcycle Sales manager. Sean, who will graduate in December from Georgia Tech, splits his time between Atlanta and Columbus. Even Mike, a general contractor in the Washington, D.C. area, is put to work whenever he finds himself near the Chattahoochee.
